Construction

The Construction Department is responsible for permitting, inspecting, and monitoring many building and construction projects, including new / temporary buildings, additions, renovations, and demolitions.

We are a Class I Agency.

Permits

Permits grant legal permission to begin your project, and they are needed to ensure that state building and fire code standards are met, and to make sure the project is safe.

Other projects which may require permits include:

  • Certain projects that involve the following types of work:
    • Electrical
    • Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems (HVAC)
    • Plumbing
  • Decks
  • Fences
  • Fireplace installations
  • Sheds
  • Swimming pools

Permit Fees

Permits require a fee, which helps us to cover the cost of the time our staff spends on the application, review, and inspection process.

Before You Begin Your Project

Call us before you begin your project. We'll be happy to tell you if you'll need a permit and/or inspection - and we can even offer advice on how to complete the job safely.

Department of Community Affairs Approval

Some projects will also require approvals by the Department of Community Affairs. You can download the forms from their site, or obtain them in person from our office.
